With that out of the way, and your research complete, you show up all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed on the scheduled auction day - ready to make your first deal. If you've never been to an auction before, take some time to look around and of course check out the various bikes on which you might bid. Always have a back-up as you might not get the first one you bid on, or the second...but eventually you will go home with a two wheeler...or at least have learned enough from the experience to try again another day.

Keep in mind that junkyard auto salvage are similar to swap meets in that most prices are negotiable. This is especially true when you're buying parts that are not in good condition. Ask for a discount or offer a lower price. Junkyards will often agree just to move the inventory. That being said, you can expect to pay nearly half of the cost of a new part. For example, a water pump for a BMW 740i may cost $140 new. Expect to pay $70 (in cash) at the junkyard.

While your old car may have served you very well, you may have noticed that the repair costs have been piling up. Maintenance and small repairs are quite normal for cars as they grow older. However, major problems with the old car can cost you more money than the car is actually worth. Major structural or engine damage can point you to the direction of getting a new car instead of having this repaired.

Unfortunately, treasure hunting is more of a hobby than an occupation. Being the Indiana Jones of the seas is definitely a lucrative hobby if your research is correct, but it is just as likely that it will be wrong. That is why it is important to have a "real" job that pays the bills and puts food on the table.

2) If you do not have a salvage yard near you, or if you do not want to travel out to one, will the business ship the part to you? Be local junk yards to compare the price of the used part + shipping to the price of a new part to make sure you're making the best decision!

The sale price of a vehicle is determined by four basic factors: the make and model of the vehicle, its condition, whether there is a high demand for its parts, and whether the yard already has the automobile in stock. Keep in mind that your vehicle may be more valuable to some junk yards than others.
